Fundations: We will begin with unit 8 which focuses on blends. A blend is two or more consonants together each making its own sound, but they are "pushed" together (EX: sl is a blend in the word slip). We will also begin to work with r-controlled vowels. We will begin this week by learning the ar and or sounds.
Spelling: There will be spelling words this week. We will take the pre-test on Monday and the final test on Friday.
Writing: We are going to continue with our opinion writing piece. We are going to continue the writing process to write our own opinion writing piece. We will finish writing our first drafts. After we edit and review our first drafts together, I am going to have the students type their stories. This may take some time, but it will be good practice for when we begin typing practice. We should begin typing practice this quarter, just waiting for the class to get set up on the program we will use.
Math: We will begin unit 5 which focuses on place value strategies. We will begin by working with unknown partners with teen totals and subtraction with teen numbers. We will also begin mixed practice of both addition and subtraction with teen numbers.
Religion: We will continue with our Protecting God's Children Unit. We will continue to discuss safe and unsafe situations. We will talk about putting on the armor of God. Each piece of armor represents something that gets protected. We will begin by discussing the helmet, which protects our eyes from seeing harmful things. We will also discuss the breastplate, which protects our hearts, and the shield, which is our faith in God.
Science: We will finish up our Human Body Unit. We will review in class on Monday and take the chapter 3 test on Tuesday.
Social Studies: We will begin our Civics Unit. We will begin reviewing where the United States of America is on a map and then discussing where the capital is. We will then discuss some American symbols. We will start by learning about the Liberty Bell.
